In 1828 he entered the Ecole de Beaux-Arts, Paris, as a pupil of A.-L.-T.Vaudoyer (1756-1846) and L.-H.Lebas (1782-1867). From 1828-1832 he received six first mentions, five second mentions, two Premier Médailles, three Deuxième Medailles and one Troisième Medaille. His professional career started in Mâcon where he became the town architect; from 1834-44. Among his executed works were the Abattoir; the Palais de Justice, prison and Hotel de Ville at Chalon; the Collège Royale at Mâcon; the Collège Communal at Louhans; the church at Romanèche and bridges in the departments of Saône-et-Loire, Ain, Rhone and the Allier. He was soon recalled to Paris where he became Inspector General of the works at the Louvre, for which he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour. These anatomical studies were made as part of his architectural training in the Ecole de Beaux-Arts.|
