Marc Aldine was the pseudonym for Antoine Bouvard Senior, born at St. Jean-de-Bournay in L'Isere in 1870. He studied art and architecture under Constant-Dufeus, at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and became the Director of Architectural Services for the Seine. His delicate and fluid use of color captures the warmth and beauty of Venice, conveying his love and admiration for the city. He became one of the most prolific painters of Venetian genre during the early portion of the 20th century, confidently capturing the spirit of this locale. During his lifetime he exhibited throughout many European galleries and his popularity has continued to the present day, placing him amongst the most recognized and respected painters of Venetian subjects.
