|This jade bi is covered with incised and low relief designs. The central field is covered by 'sprouting millet' motif, bordered with a cord pattern , and the outside band featyres stylized horned dragons interlacing with each other. It is of a type found often in Han tombs, but thought to date to the Warring States period. These bi were, according to literature, used in ritual worship and associated with heaven. |
This is a beautiful and fine example of its type.
