|Rich imagery using black, white and grey pigment a la Harry Fonseca!|
"Fonseca's continuing interest in rock art led him to develop the Stone Poems, an extensive series of works exploring the imagery of petroglyphs, not only from California but throughout the West and Southwest, especially Utah. The Stone Poems are not meant to be so much an interpretive recording of rock images but a way of self-exploration. The canvases, some as large as 6' by 12', suggest the size and scope of petroglyphic panels in situ." - taken from the Harry Fonseca website (still in existence, in spite of his having died in 2006. www.harryfonseca.com).

Harry was universally loved and respected due to his contribution to the development of American Indian painting. There is not an abundance of his work available on the market.
Fonseca (1946-2006) studied art at California State University, Sacramento earning his MFA in painting.
In 1976 he received a special projects grant from the California Arts Council to prepare a series of paintings and drawings documenting the Maidu Origin myth.
Frequently, Fonseca depicted the coyote, a legendary trickster found in many stories. He has a human-like personality and frequently falls victim to poor judgment. In a documentary film titled "Fonseca: In Search of a Coyote," the development of his coyote series was investigated. Two other bodies of work, one titled Stone Poems and the enigmatic St. Francis series were well received in Japan and Germany.
Fonseca's last canvases featured parallel horizontal bands of color, yielding a meditative quality when colors were subtle.
