|A large and imposing quarter striking mahogany bracket clock. The case with well-chosen veneers has a round top surmounted by a cupola which has fish scale sound frets to three sides and a wooden fret to the rear. There are four vase shaped brass finials on the four corners of the case and a slightly larger finial on top of the cupola. The case then progresses down with brass capped and reeded columns to the front corners and two carrying handles to each side above further brass fish scale frets. It has well shaped brass feet.|
The painted arched dial, signed for the maker ‘Sarjent, Jermyn St, London’, has strike and silent dials in the arch and a further pendulum adjustment dial.
The three train gut fusee movement is of fine quality. It has a beautifully engraved backplate with edge engraving and sparse foliate engraving with a stylized cartouche with ‘J S’ in foliate style within. The movement strikes the quarters on a nest of 8 bells and the hour on a further bell mounted above the backplate.
