|German flintlock sword pistol of the mid 18th century signed M. Karg Hechingen with a most rare highly decorated hilt and pommel.|
Sword pistols are rare in general but when found are primarily made with little or no decoration on the guard, the hilt or the pommel, and the grip is usually plane wood. This example features a brass guard and pommel crowned by a fully dimensional eagle head above a boar in a forest on the pistol side and a stag hunting scene on the other. A boar and stag are on either side of the guard and blow is a running dog and a full figure dog head. The guard has a boar hunting scene with dogs and the lock of the flintlock is decorated with a running boar. A running boar iand a running stag are also etched into the blade.
